BA Acting for Stage and Screen
About this course
Acting for stage and screen is a practice-based discipline that develops you as a versatile, technically grounded, and professionally ready performer. The demands of theatre and those of film and digital media overlap substantially but differ in important ways: understanding both expands your range as an actor and your employability in a screen-dominated industry without closing off the live performance work that remains at the heart of British theatrical culture. Training seriously in this field means developing your voice, your body, your imagination, and your ability to inhabit character with conviction. At Coventry University, this three-year full-time programme is designed for aspiring actors, performers, and performance-makers who want both rigorous practical training and the professional flexibility to work across theatre, film, and digital media. You will develop skills in voice production and speech, physical theatre and movement, character development, text interpretation, and the specific techniques required for camera performance. The programme develops you as a reflective practitioner, someone who understands what they do and can continue to learn and adapt after graduation. A sandwich year places you in the industry for a sustained period, a year abroad broadens your experience of performance in different cultural contexts, and work placement experience is integrated throughout. Graduates work as professional actors across theatre, film, television, and digital content, and many also build careers as directors, drama facilitators, community artists, drama teachers, and movement coaches. The communication, empathy, and collaborative skills developed during actor training are also valued in roles beyond performance, including training and development, social work, and creative industries management. Further study in acting, directing, and theatre practice is available for those who wish to develop their work at postgraduate level.
