BA Acting
About this course
Acting is one of the oldest and most demanding performing arts, requiring a practitioner who can inhabit other lives convincingly while also commanding the technical skills of voice, movement, and physical presence that professional performance demands. It is simultaneously an art of imagination and discipline, requiring detailed preparation alongside the spontaneity and genuine responsiveness that make performance alive. Studying acting at degree level means developing both the creative and the craft dimensions of the work in a serious and structured way. At Leeds Beckett University this three-year full-time programme places you in one of England's most vibrant cultural cities, with a theatre scene that ranges from established producing houses to fringe companies and new writing organisations. The degree includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and a work placement component, giving you substantial opportunities to develop professional experience and to encounter different theatrical traditions and training approaches before you graduate. The typical entry tariff of 120 points reflects the standard expected of students entering the programme. You will develop technique across all the key areas of actor training: text analysis and script work, vocal production, physical training, and the skills of ensemble and collaborative performance. You will also develop the critical self-awareness needed to reflect on your own practice and to continue developing as an artist throughout a professional career. Graduates of acting degrees pursue careers in theatre, television, film, radio, voice work, and community and applied theatre settings. Many also work as directors, theatre-makers, drama facilitators, and teachers. The performance, communication, and collaborative skills developed by acting training are also broadly valued by employers outside the arts, and graduates move into education, arts administration, casting, and arts management.
