BSc Adult Nursing
About this course
Adult nursing is the profession at the centre of healthcare delivery in the UK, supporting people from late adolescence through to the end of life across an enormous range of conditions and settings. Adult nurses offer comprehensive physical, emotional, mental, and social support to people of all ages, as Coventry University's own description puts it, and address the diverse health and care needs of individuals across the lifespan. The role combines clinical knowledge and technical skill with compassion, communication, and the ability to make sound judgements under pressure. Coventry University's three-year full-time Adult Nursing degree is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to practise independently as a registered nurse upon graduation. The typical entry tariff is 120 points. You will study anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, clinical assessment, evidence-based practice, and the professional frameworks that govern nursing in the UK. A substantial portion of your time is spent on practice placements in NHS and other healthcare settings, where you will develop clinical skills and professional judgement under the supervision of registered practitioners. These placements are central to the programme and to your preparation for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Registered adult nurses work across hospital wards, operating departments, critical care units, community nursing teams, GP practices, and specialist services. Many develop expertise in particular clinical areas such as oncology, cardiology, neurology, or palliative care, and some move into management, education, or advanced practice. Nursing offers a clear career ladder with strong job security and genuinely significant impact on the lives of the people you care for. Postgraduate study and continuing professional development are built into professional nursing practice throughout a nurse's career.
