BSc Construction Management
About this course
Construction management is the discipline responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering building projects on time, within budget and to the required quality. It is a professional practice that requires technical knowledge of how buildings are constructed, commercial and financial management skills, leadership capabilities and the ability to coordinate teams of designers, contractors and subcontractors across complex multi-stage projects. The built environment industry is one of the largest sectors of the UK economy, and construction managers play a central role within it. At Glasgow Caledonian University, the programme covers a wide variety of technical, financial and planning aspects of construction management in both theory and practice. You will study construction technology, project planning and scheduling, cost management, procurement strategy, building information modelling, risk management and the legal frameworks governing construction contracts. The degree includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you the opportunity to develop professional experience and international perspectives in the construction industry. GCU has a strong track record in producing construction management graduates who work across the Scottish construction sector, and most Construction Management graduates in Scotland have trained at GCU. The part-time mode of delivery makes the programme accessible to construction industry professionals who are already working and want to gain a formal qualification alongside their employment. Graduates work in project management, quantity surveying, site management, commercial management, facilities management and property development. Many pursue professional accreditation through the Chartered Institute of Building or related bodies. Postgraduate study in construction management, project management or real estate is a natural continuation.
