BSc Construction Management
About this course
Construction management is the discipline that coordinates the complex process of delivering built environment projects, ensuring that buildings, infrastructure and civil engineering works are completed on time, within budget, safely and to the required standard. It draws on technical knowledge of construction methods, materials and building systems alongside the management skills of planning, procurement, contract administration, risk management and team leadership. In a sector characterised by tight margins, complex regulatory requirements and the coordination of large numbers of contractors and specialists, effective construction management is essential to project success. At Leeds Beckett, this part-time programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you a combination of international academic experience and substantial professional engagement with the construction industry alongside flexible study. Part-time study is particularly well suited to those already working in construction or a related field, as it allows you to develop your academic knowledge in direct connection with your professional experience. The year abroad gives you the opportunity to study construction management in a different national context, broadening your perspective on how the built environment industry operates internationally. You will develop your understanding of construction technology, project planning, commercial management, contract law, sustainability and the management of construction projects across their full lifecycle, from design and planning through to handover and occupation. Graduates work as construction managers, site managers, project managers, commercial managers and quantity surveyors across contractors, developers, consultants and client organisations. Many graduates pursue professional accreditation with the Chartered Institute of Building or the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Postgraduate study in construction management, project management or quantity surveying is a natural option.
