BA Digital Design
About this course
Digital design is a discipline at the intersection of creative practice and technology, concerned with how visual and interactive experiences are conceived, designed, and built for digital contexts. It encompasses web and app design, user interface and user experience design, graphic design for digital media, motion graphics, animation, and emerging fields such as virtual and augmented reality. As digital technology has become central to how organisations communicate, sell, and deliver services, the ability to design experiences that are both technically functional and genuinely compelling has become one of the most valued creative skills in the economy. At Roehampton University, this four-year full-time programme, which includes a foundation year and a sandwich year, develops the skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience needed to address design challenges both online and offline. You will work across graphic design, motion graphics, animation, gamification, UX, and UI, developing a broad technical foundation alongside a strong focus on socially conscious design, which means thinking not just about what looks good or works well but about the impact of design on communities and the world. The foundation year provides a structured entry into degree-level design study, and the sandwich year gives you professional experience in industry before graduation. A work placement adds further real-world exposure. With a typical entry tariff of 104 UCAS points, the programme is accessible to creative and technically curious students. Digital design graduates are sought across a wide range of sectors. UX and UI roles, motion design, web and app design, social media design, product design, and creative direction are all common destinations. Technology companies, design agencies, media organisations, and the in-house design teams of larger businesses all employ digital designers. Postgraduate study in interaction design, digital media, or related fields provides options for those who wish to specialise.
