BSc Geography
About this course
Geography is the integrated study of landscapes, peoples, places, and environments, a discipline that bridges the social and natural sciences to address some of the most urgent questions facing the world today. Human geography examines how people organise space, how cities and regions develop, how migration and globalisation reshape communities, and how power and inequality are distributed across places. Physical geography examines climate systems, geomorphological processes, ecosystems, and the changing face of the Earth's surface. Together they offer a uniquely complete perspective on the relationship between people and the planet. At Loughborough, geography is taught as a discipline that is vital for increasing understanding of our rapidly changing planet, with human and physical geography pursued as interlinked strands that together bridge the social and natural sciences. You will develop both qualitative and quantitative research skills, undertaking fieldwork alongside theoretical and analytical study. The degree runs over three years full-time, with a typical entry tariff of 152 points. Graduates of geography programmes pursue careers in environmental consultancy, urban planning, GIS and spatial data analysis, the civil service, international development, policy research, teaching, journalism, and a wide range of commercial and public sector roles. The combination of social and scientific understanding, quantitative and qualitative methods, and real-world relevance makes geography one of the most versatile of all humanities and sciences degrees. Many graduates go on to postgraduate study in geography, urban planning, environmental management, or a related field to develop more specialised expertise.
