About this course

Adult nursing is one of the most directly impactful professions in the healthcare system, placing you at the bedside of patients across the full spectrum of acute and long-term conditions. Adult nurses work across hospitals, community settings, specialist clinics, care homes and patients' own homes, and they are responsible for assessing needs, planning and delivering care, administering treatments and communicating with patients and families through often difficult and stressful circumstances. It is a profession that demands both rigorous clinical knowledge and genuine human compassion. At Middlesex University, this three-year full-time programme prepares you for registration as an adult nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. You will develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care to adults with a wide range of health needs. The course combines academic study with substantial practice experience in diverse healthcare settings, equipping you to think critically, exercise professional judgement and work both autonomously and as part of multidisciplinary teams. You will learn to assess patients systematically, manage complex care situations and adapt your approach across different clinical environments, building the clinical competence and reflective capacity that effective nursing requires. Registration as a nurse opens one of the most varied and consistently in-demand careers in the UK workforce. Adult nurses work in NHS trusts, independent hospitals, primary care, community health services, hospices and international settings. Many go on to specialise in areas such as critical care, oncology, cardiology, accident and emergency or theatres, often supported by continuing professional development and postgraduate study. Leadership, management, advanced clinical practice and nurse education are all established career pathways, and the combination of clinical skill, communication and analytical thinking that nursing develops is valued across health, policy and research.
