About this course

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that places human movement at the centre of health and wellbeing. Physiotherapists work with people of all ages who have conditions affecting their ability to move and function effectively, including musculoskeletal injuries, neurological conditions, respiratory disease, and the effects of surgery, accident, or chronic illness. The profession encompasses health promotion, injury prevention, assessment, and specialist rehabilitation, and physiotherapists work across hospitals, community settings, sports organisations, schools, and private practice. At the University of Suffolk, this three-year, full-time degree is accredited by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and prepares graduates for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council. You will develop knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and the science of movement alongside the clinical assessment and treatment skills that effective physiotherapy requires. Practice placements are integral to the programme, giving you supervised clinical experience across a range of specialties and settings from early in the course. The combination of academic rigour and extensive clinical practice is designed to produce graduates who are confident, competent, and reflective practitioners from the point of registration. Graduates qualify to work as physiotherapists in NHS trusts, community health services, private clinics, sports organisations, occupational health, and care homes. The profession offers significant career development opportunities, with many physiotherapists going on to specialise in areas such as musculoskeletal, neurological, paediatric, cardiorespiratory, or oncological physiotherapy. Some move into management, research, or education roles, and many pursue postgraduate qualifications that allow them to extend their scope of practice or develop advanced clinical expertise.
