Actor
What you'd actually do
As an actor, you perform in plays, films or on television, playing different characters and telling stories that audiences enjoy. You learn scripts, rehearse with other actors and directors, and perform in front of audiences or cameras. Each role you play is different - one day you might be a detective, the next a comedian or a fierce warrior.
Your work includes rehearsals where you and the director work out how your character should move and speak. You will also go to auditions, where you perform a short piece to try to get new jobs. The work is creative and collaborative - you work closely with other actors, directors and designers. It can be hard work and the jobs don't always come regularly, but many people find it exciting and rewarding to perform and tell stories that matter.
