What you'd actually do

As a cardiologist, you're a doctor who specialises in treating heart and blood vessel problems. You see patients, examine them, order tests, and work out what's wrong with their heart. Then you treat them—sometimes with medicines, sometimes with procedures like fitting stents or doing angioplasties. You also explain to patients how to look after their heart better, like eating well or taking more exercise.

Heart disease is a big health problem in the UK and worldwide, and you help manage it. Some patients recover well, but you also care for people whose hearts are badly damaged and may not survive.
