The job needs careful observation, maths skills and knowledge of building and property law.

Get chartered, then specialise early

Develop client-facing and cross-disciplinary skills
Surveyors who can communicate clearly with architects, planners, lenders, and local authority officers will increasingly be the ones leading project teams rather than feeding data into them. Soft skills around stakeholder management and negotiation are genuinely difficult to automate and are consistently cited by senior surveyors as the difference between those who progress and those who plateau.
