What you'd actually do

As a game developer, you write code that makes video games work. You take an idea for a game and build it into something real that people can play. You might work on how a character moves, how a puzzle works, how a weapon fires, or how fast the game runs on different devices. Every part of a game needs a programmer to make it actually happen.

You work with artists who create what the game looks like and sound designers who make the music and effects. You test your code to find problems and fix them.
