What you'd actually do

As a lift technician, you install, maintain and repair lifts and escalators in buildings. You do regular safety checks, spotting and fixing problems before they become dangerous. You need to understand both mechanical and electrical systems, and you have to be reliable and safety-conscious because people's lives depend on your work.

You work carefully, following strict safety rules, and you keep detailed records of every job you do.
