Curious about being a motorcycle courier? Here's the honest picture - what you'd really do, what you'd earn, and every way in. No need to decide anything yet.

What you'd actually do

The work is collecting and delivering items on time, planning routes, riding safely through traffic and getting deliveries signed for. Good road sense, local knowledge and reliability matter, along with the stamina to ride all day in all conditions and the care to keep parcels safe.

Many couriers are self-employed and paid per job, so earnings vary with how busy it is and the weather, with no sick or holiday pay. It is physically demanding and exposed to the elements, and you cover your own bike, fuel, insurance and gear.

You need a full motorcycle licence and a roadworthy, insured bike, plus the right work insurance for carrying goods. No other qualifications are required, but a good knowledge of your area and safe riding are essential, and you handle your own tax as self-employed.
