Transport and Distribution Managers
What you'd actually do
As a transport and distribution manager, you are in charge of moving products across the UK and beyond. You plan which routes the lorries should take, decide how to use the vehicles and drivers efficiently, and make sure everything gets delivered when it is promised. You manage budgets, negotiate with the companies that deliver goods, and use computer systems to track where lorries are and what they are carrying.
You lead a team of logistics workers and drivers, making sure they have what they need and handling any problems that come up - like a lorry breaking down or a delivery being delayed. You are always thinking ahead: looking for ways to save money, reduce fuel use, and get things delivered faster. The job involves problem-solving on the spot, because in logistics things change quickly. You need to be organised and calm under pressure.
