What you'd actually do

As a wildlife veterinarian, you combine your love of animals with medical skill to help wildlife. You might work in a wildlife hospital treating an injured bird, in a remote forest checking on an endangered population, or with a conservation team planning how to protect a struggling species.

Some days you will examine animals carefully, take samples to check for illness, and perform operations. Other days you will work outside, hiking to see animals in their homes and collecting information about their health. The work is demanding - animals can be dangerous and environments are harsh - but you are directly helping creatures survive, which makes it rewarding. It is important to know that some animals will not survive even with your care, and you need to be ready for that.
