About this course

Architecture is both an art and a technical discipline, concerned with how the built environment is conceived, designed, and constructed. Buildings are not just functional containers; they shape how people experience space, they express cultural values, and they outlast the lives of those who designed them. Architecture requires you to be simultaneously a creative thinker, a technical problem-solver, an environmental strategist, and a communicator capable of explaining complex spatial ideas to clients, engineers, and communities.

At Loughborough University, this four-year full-time integrated MArch (Hons) degree is designed to develop confident and creative designers with the technical knowledge and professional skills for architectural practice. You will develop strong communication abilities alongside rigorous technical understanding, learning how to manage projects and work within the collaborative processes that define real architectural work. The programme emphasises hands-on learning, ensuring that design studio work, model-making, drawing, and digital representation are central to how you learn, not just supplementary to it.

The integrated masters structure means you progress from foundational design thinking to the more advanced synthetic design capability required for chartered architectural practice, all within a single continuous programme.

Loughborough's focus on design excellence and its investment in studio facilities and teaching provides an environment where you are expected to develop a distinctive design voice alongside the technical and professional competencies the field demands.

Graduates typically continue to postgraduate architectural education and professional training required for full registration, including Part 2 and Part 3 qualifications. Many go on to practise as registered architects in the UK and internationally, while others move into urban design, masterplanning, landscape architecture, architectural research, or property and construction management. The integrated masters provides a strong foundation for all of these directions.

Genuinely worthwhile
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the studio culture is incredible β€” you learn as much from your peers as your tutors. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” local cost …

Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: the studio culture is incredible β€” you learn as much from your peers as your tutors. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city β€” good …
