About this course

Computer Science is the discipline that creates, studies, and improves the systems through which computation is performed. From the mathematical theory of algorithms to the practical engineering of software applications, computer science equips you with both the conceptual foundations and the hands-on skills to build the technology that the modern world runs on. The discipline is constantly evolving, and a good computer science education teaches you not only today's techniques but the underlying principles that allow you to adapt as the field changes.

At Swansea University, this three-year, full-time programme takes a forward-looking approach, focusing on the skills and understanding that employers will need when you graduate, with a curriculum updated to reflect the current state of the industry. You will learn to code and to think like a software engineer, building software from the first day of your studies and developing expertise in high-demand areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, software engineering, and mobile application development. Swansea's strong research profile in areas including verified software and data science ensures that the teaching is connected to active developments in the field.

The emphasis is on creating, innovating, and solving real problems, developing the kind of intellectual confidence that allows you to tackle challenges that have not yet been anticipated.

Computer Science graduates work in virtually every sector of the economy. Software developer, systems architect, data scientist, cybersecurity specialist, AI engineer, product manager, and technology consultant are among the most common roles. The degree also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study in specialist areas such as machine learning, human-computer interaction, distributed systems, or formal verification.

Swansea's combination of academic rigour and practical orientation prepares graduates to contribute immediately in professional settings while continuing to grow throughout their careers.
