About this course

Computer science at Warwick is one of the most established and respected programmes of its kind in the UK, designed for students who combine a genuine talent for mathematics with a passion for understanding how computing works and how it can be pushed further. Computer science is not primarily a vocational training in software tools; it is a rigorous intellectual discipline concerned with algorithms, data structures, computation theory, programming languages, systems, and the mathematical foundations that underpin them. Understanding these foundations is what allows the best practitioners to build systems and solve problems that go beyond what existing tools were designed for.

This three-year, full-time programme at Warwick includes a placement year and a year abroad, both of which provide significant opportunities for professional and personal development. You will work closely with industry leaders, gaining exposure to industrially relevant problems and developing the kind of applied competence that academic study alone cannot fully provide. The year abroad gives you the opportunity to experience computer science in a different academic tradition.

The Warwick department has strong research connections across artificial intelligence, machine learning, algorithms, systems, and theoretical computer science, and those connections inform the academic content of the degree.

Computer science graduates from Warwick are in high demand across the technology industry and far beyond. Software engineering, data science, machine learning research, systems architecture, and quantitative finance are among the most common destinations, and the depth of the Warwick degree opens doors in highly selective programmes and research environments. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in computer science, artificial intelligence, or related fields.

The combination of academic rigour, industry experience through placement, and international perspective through the year abroad makes Warwick computer science graduates exceptionally well prepared.

Would do it again
The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, some seminar groups were too big for meaningful discussion. On the city β€” the city…

Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” the city i…
