About this course

Computer science at its core is about solving problems, designing systems that process information, and understanding the fundamental principles that govern what computers can and cannot do. It encompasses programming and software engineering, algorithms and data structures, computer architecture, networks, databases, and the mathematical foundations that underlie all of these. At the same time, modern computer science extends into artificial intelligence, machine learning, human-computer interaction, security, and the theory of computation, reflecting the discipline's extraordinary breadth and its central role in almost every aspect of contemporary life.

At University College London, this three-year full-time programme is one of the most demanding and prestigious computer science degrees in the UK. The curriculum covers the theoretical and practical dimensions of the subject at depth, developing your ability to think rigorously about computation and to build real, working systems. You will study programming in multiple paradigms, algorithms and complexity, software engineering principles, computer systems and architecture, and a range of specialist topics.

UCL's strength in research across computer science and adjacent fields means that you will be taught by academics working at the forefront of the discipline, and many students engage with research activity during their studies.

London's position as a global technology hub provides an exceptional context for studying computer science. You will have access to one of the world's densest concentrations of technology companies, startups, and research institutions, and UCL's connections with industry create opportunities for projects, placements, and employment.

Graduates of computer science programmes from UCL are in high demand across the technology sector and beyond, moving into software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, product management, and research roles. The degree also provides an excellent foundation for postgraduate study, including masters and PhD programmes in computer science and related fields.

Highly recommend
I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” the city is a brilli…

Would do it again
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: you finish with a portfolio that recruiters take seriously. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city β€” good transport links make it easy to visi…
