About this course

Construction Engineering Management is the discipline concerned with the leadership and coordination of complex construction projects, combining the technical knowledge of an engineer with the management skills needed to bring large-scale built environment schemes in on time, within budget, and to the required quality. It is a field that demands both rigorous technical understanding of construction materials, structures, and processes and the commercial, contractual, and human skills to manage the teams, suppliers and stakeholders that every significant construction project involves.

At Loughborough University, one of the UK's leading engineering and technology universities, this three-year full-time programme provides a strong technical and managerial foundation for a career in construction project leadership. You will study structural and civil engineering principles, construction technology, project management, commercial law and contract, health and safety management, and the quantitative methods used to plan, monitor and control construction projects. Loughborough's engineering reputation and its strong links to the construction industry mean that the programme is closely aligned with what the sector needs from its graduates, and the university has a track record of producing construction professionals who move quickly into leadership roles.

Graduates of Construction Engineering Management programmes work across the construction, infrastructure and built environment sectors in roles including project management, site management, quantity surveying, contracts management, and development management. Many pursue professional membership of relevant bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Building or the Institution of Civil Engineers. The UK's sustained need for housing, infrastructure renewal and commercial development means that demand for qualified construction managers is strong.

Some graduates also move into consultancy, finance, or public sector roles, and a number pursue postgraduate study to specialise further.

Genuinely worthwhile
The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city β€” the city…

I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” good tra…
