About this course

Electro-mechanical engineering brings together the disciplines of electrical and mechanical engineering to address the design and operation of systems in which these two domains interact. This combination lies at the heart of modern technology: electric motors, industrial robots, automated manufacturing equipment, and smart control systems all depend on engineers who can think fluently across both fields. At Coventry University, this BEng (Hons) programme aims to provide you with a solid grounding for building a career in the engineering sector.

This four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, which builds the mathematical and scientific foundations needed for engineering study at degree level. It is an excellent route for students who are committed to engineering but need additional preparation before entering the main programme. As you progress, you will study mechanical principles including statics, dynamics, and materials science alongside electrical foundations including circuit theory, electronics, and control systems.

The synthesis of these two areas is the intellectual heart of the programme, developing your ability to design systems in which mechanical and electrical components interact reliably. Laboratory work and design projects give you practical experience in working from problem to solution, and the programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities that together ensure you have significant professional experience before you graduate.

The typical entry tariff is 88 UCAS points. Graduates from electro-mechanical engineering programmes are well positioned across manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, energy, robotics, and building services. Career paths include design engineering, systems integration, project management, and technical consulting.

Further study at masters level in mechatronics, robotics, or control systems is a natural progression for those wishing to specialise.
