About this course

Mathematics is one of the purest and most powerful intellectual disciplines, concerned with the structures, patterns and relationships that underlie all quantitative reasoning. It is a subject built on proof and rigour, where every claim must be established from first principles through logical argument, and where the elegance of a well-constructed proof is considered an aesthetic achievement as much as a logical one. Applied mathematics extends these foundations into modelling the physical and social world, while pure mathematics pursues abstract structures that may have no immediate application but often turn out to be exactly what scientists or engineers need decades later.

At Cardiff University, you will study mathematics over three years full time in a department with strong research activity across pure and applied mathematics, statistics and mathematical physics. Cardiff's School of Mathematics is an active research environment, and undergraduates benefit from studying in a department where faculty are engaged with mathematics at the frontier of the discipline.
