About this course

Adult nursing is one of the most demanding and most rewarding professions in healthcare. Adult nurses care for people across the full lifespan from young adults to older people, in settings ranging from hospital wards and intensive care units to community clinics, care homes, and patients' own homes. The role requires clinical knowledge, technical skill, compassionate communication, and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and dignity.

It is a profession that combines science and humanity in equal measure.

At Aberystwyth University, this three-year, full-time nursing degree prepares you for registration as an adult nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Throughout the programme, you will spend substantial time in clinical placements across a range of healthcare settings, developing the practical skills and professional judgement that nursing requires. Academic study of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, health assessment, and nursing theory runs alongside this clinical learning, giving you the evidence base to understand and justify the care you provide.

You will develop competence in clinical procedures, patient assessment, medicines management, and the record-keeping and communication that are central to safe nursing practice.

Graduates are eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and to work as qualified nurses in the NHS, private healthcare, care homes, community health settings, and internationally. Nursing offers an unusually wide range of career paths, from specialist clinical roles in areas such as critical care, oncology, or mental health to roles in management, education, research, and advanced nursing practice. Many nurses go on to postgraduate study and specialist or advanced practice qualifications, building expertise in the areas of healthcare that matter most to them.

Highly recommend
Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant student c…

A great decision
The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” …
