Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and manual treatment concerned with the relationship between the structure of the body and its function. Osteopaths work to restore and maintain health by identifying and treating restrictions in movement, muscular tension, and the mechanical dysfunctions that can contribute to pain and reduced function across the musculoskeletal system and beyond. At Anglia Ruskin University, you can study osteopathy on a part-time basis, covering the same curriculum as full-time students but progressing through the programme in a different order or across different years, allowing you to balance study with other commitments.

You will study anatomy, physiology, pathology, and clinical sciences alongside the theory and practical techniques of osteopathy, progressively developing the manual and diagnostic skills that clinical practice requires. Patient contact and clinical placement are central to the programme, and you will develop your clinical competence under supervision in a setting that prepares you for independent practice. The part-time route is particularly well suited to students who are already working in a healthcare or related field and want to build professional qualifications alongside their existing experience.

Graduation qualifies you for registration with the General Osteopathic Council, the statutory regulator for osteopathy in the UK, and for practice as an osteopath in independent or multidisciplinary settings. Osteopaths work in private practice, sports medicine, occupational health, and an increasing range of NHS and community health settings. Many also develop specialist interests in areas such as paediatric osteopathy, sports osteopathy, or visceral techniques, and continue their professional development through postgraduate training throughout their careers.
