About this course

Social work is the profession dedicated to supporting people who are vulnerable, disadvantaged, or experiencing crisis, advocating for their rights, and working to address the social conditions that give rise to need and inequality. It is a regulated profession, requiring a qualifying degree and registration with Social Work England, and it demands both a deep understanding of human development and social systems and a genuine commitment to the welfare of others, including those who are hardest to reach. Practitioners work in children's services, adult social care, mental health, substance misuse, and a range of other statutory and voluntary settings.

At Middlesex University, this three-year full-time programme is approved by Social Work England and co-designed by academics, service users, and practice partners, which means the content reflects both academic rigour and the realities of contemporary social work practice. You will learn how to work with and alongside people at risk, combining skills in assessment, intervention, and advocacy with the knowledge of law, policy, and theory that professional practice requires. Practice placements are central to the programme, giving you direct experience of social work in real settings under professional supervision.

The typical entry tariff of 104 points reflects the broad and accessible character of the programme, which Middlesex has designed to attract students from diverse backgrounds.

You will develop into a reflective and skilled social worker, equipped to engage with some of the most complex and challenging dimensions of human experience with compassion and professional integrity.

Graduates qualify to register as social workers and pursue careers in statutory children's services and adult social care, the NHS, the voluntary sector, and specialist services. Leadership, advanced practice, and postgraduate qualifications in social work or related fields are natural next steps for those wishing to develop further.

This is the perfect place to study this subject. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant student…

Would do it again
The course has exceeded my expectations. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant student city with ple…
