Social Work

Social work is one of the most directly impactful professions in society, working with individuals and families at times of vulnerability to support their wellbeing, protect them from harm, and help them access the resources and opportunities they need to live fuller lives. Social workers practice across children's services, adult social care, mental health, criminal justice, domestic abuse support, and homelessness services, among many other fields, and they must combine empathic human skills with a solid knowledge of law, policy, safeguarding, and professional ethics.

At Southampton Solent University, this three-year full-time degree gives you the knowledge and practical experience key to making a difference to the lives of vulnerable people. You will study the legal and policy frameworks within which social work operates, the theories of human development and social systems that underpin professional practice, and the specific skills of assessment, risk management, case planning, and direct work with service users. Practice placements are integral to the programme, ensuring that your academic learning is grounded in real social work experience across different settings and client groups.

Graduating qualifies you for registration with Social Work England as a social worker.
