Sport and Exercise Sciences

Sport and exercise sciences applies the principles of physiology, psychology, biomechanics, and nutrition to the systematic investigation of how the human body responds to physical activity, and how those responses can be harnessed to improve performance, support rehabilitation, and promote health across the population. The discipline has grown substantially as both elite sport and public health have come to depend more heavily on evidence-based science, and graduates with this training are in demand across a wide range of professional contexts.

At Roehampton University, this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing a thorough scientific grounding before the main degree begins. A sandwich year is also built in, and a work placement is available, meaning that by graduation you will have substantial applied experience in sport science or a related professional environment. The programme challenges you to tackle global health and performance challenges by understanding the science of the human body, and it is designed to give you the practical skills and professional experience needed to stand out in a competitive field.

You will study exercise physiology, sport psychology, biomechanics, nutrition, strength and conditioning, and research methods, developing both the theoretical knowledge and the practical competence that careers in the field demand. Graduates go on to work as sport scientists, strength and conditioning coaches, exercise physiologists, health and fitness professionals, and performance analysts in professional sport, healthcare, national governing bodies, and the corporate wellbeing sector.
