THE DOOR: ENTRY DIFFICULTY TODAY, graded A (easy) to E (extremely hard). A Careermash rule-of-thumb index built from our AI exposure index and the job's moat class. It is not a forecast and not a count of job openings.

AI EXPOSURE TODAY is a Careermash index from 0 to 100 of how exposed this job's everyday tasks are to AI today. We estimate it by matching published research on how people use AI to this job, usually by keyword or subject area, and we lower it where the work is protected (for example by physical, personal or legal requirements). It is not a direct measurement of how much people in this job use AI.

AI exposure is modest for this work today
AI exposure today for this job is modest on our index (30), an estimate rather than a measurement. We have not yet classified what, if anything, structurally protects it, so we make no claim either way about a moat. Learn the tools, and build the judgement that stays human.

The role

As a production manager or director in mining and energy, you run the team that extracts coal, oil, gas or metals from the ground. Your job is to plan what happens each day, watch over the work, and make sure everything runs smoothly and safely. It is big responsibility work - the whole team depends on you to guide them.

Your day involves checking schedules, talking to different teams, and solving problems when something goes wrong. You will look at numbers and data to spot ways to work faster or use fewer resources. You will also make sure your team follows all the safety rules and meets the laws about protecting the environment. The work can be challenging - mining and energy work can be dangerous - but good planning and teamwork make it safer. You will need to think clearly, stay calm under pressure, and keep safety as your top priority.

Daily responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations to ensure production targets are met safely and efficiently.
  • Develop and implement production schedules and strategies to optimize resource use.
  • Collaborate with engineering and safety teams to enhance operational processes.
  • Monitor compliance with industry regulations and environmental standards.
  • Analyze production data to identify areas for improvement and drive innovation.
  • Lead training programs to enhance team skills and promote a culture of safety.
  • Manage budgets and resource allocation to maximize profitability.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including government bodies and local communities, to foster positive relationships.
