BA Film Production
About this course
Film production is the practice of bringing moving image work into existence, spanning the full range of creative and technical decisions that determine what a film looks like, sounds like, and means. It encompasses screenwriting, directing, cinematography, production design, editing, and post-production, and it requires both artistic vision and the practical ability to manage the complex collaborative processes that filmmaking involves. The film industry is diverse and constantly evolving, with demand for skilled practitioners across cinema, television, streaming, advertising, and digital content. At Coventry University, this three-year full-time programme is aimed at those with a passion for filmmaking and a desire to develop their creative, technical, and professional skills in the film industry. You will develop across the major roles in film production, building expertise in your particular areas of strength while understanding how the different crafts of filmmaking work together. The programme includes a sandwich year with a year abroad and work placement, giving you direct professional experience on real productions and international exposure to how film is made in different industrial and cultural contexts. You will graduate with a portfolio of work that demonstrates your creative and technical capabilities. Entry typically requires around 104 UCAS tariff points. Film production graduates work as directors, cinematographers, editors, producers, production managers, screenwriters, and in a wide range of crew roles across film, television, advertising, and digital media. The creative, collaborative, and project management skills the degree develops are also transferable into the broader creative industries. Building strong professional connections and a compelling portfolio during the programme is central to entering the industry after graduation.
