About this course

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession concerned with helping people move, recover and live more actively following injury, illness or long-term conditions. It draws on an understanding of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics to assess how the body functions and to design interventions that reduce pain, restore movement and support rehabilitation. Physiotherapists work across a wide range of settings, from acute hospital wards and sports injury clinics to community health services and occupational health, and they play a vital role in helping people of all ages maintain independence and quality of life. At Roehampton University, this three-year full-time programme equips you with the clinical knowledge, practical skills and professional values needed to work as a physiotherapist. You will study the science of human movement and learn how conditions affecting the musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems are assessed and managed. A strong emphasis is placed on understanding the relationship between movement, recovery and overall wellbeing. Throughout the programme, theoretical study is integrated with clinical practice, giving you the supervised hands-on experience that is central to developing competence and confidence as a practitioner. The typical entry tariff is 104 UCAS points. Physiotherapy is a regulated profession, and completion of an approved degree programme is the standard route to registration with the Health and Care Professions Council, which is required to practise in the UK. Graduates work in NHS trusts, private clinics, sports clubs, armed forces healthcare and community rehabilitation teams. Specialisation in areas such as musculoskeletal physiotherapy, paediatrics, neurology, respiratory care or sports rehabilitation is common as careers develop. Many physiotherapists go on to postgraduate study to deepen clinical expertise or to pursue teaching and research roles in higher education. The profession offers strong career prospects, a high degree of job satisfaction and opportunities to work internationally.
